These basins are made from thrown slabs which gives them a feeling of fluidity. I glaze the outsides for strength, and the insides vary between raw stained clay or glazed. All have glass added which melts during the firing. They can be used outside for the birds, indoors as a decorative piece or with a bit of water to float a flower. Prices range from $125 - $200 for the larger birdbaths which measure from 13” to 18” in diameter. I also make them in smaller sizes as pictured, priced from $30 - $90. My slag glass comes from Colorado, via The Rift Gallery in Dixon. I choose the colors and shapes that interest me, then allow the glass to suggest what animal or bird form should be added. These are also good garden accents, but all of these pieces should be kept sheltered during harsh wet winters.
